This is why PC gaming is ahead of the curve
PC gaming is known and celebrated for its open nature allowing for experimentation and lends itself to developers who want to push the very limits of both hardware and software development. Sometimes we see strange new concepts on the PC first before they make it to any other platform. I've talked about this before in the past. This week I've put together some of the top videos showcasing the calibre of pc games we have to look forward to, along with an added bonus of a PC Gamer hosted panel at Pax Prime 2013 with some of PC gaming's greatest champions.
The PC Gaming World Congress at PAX Prime 2013
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGqu4CsUX9I"] If you're like me, you've probably dreamed of going to PAX Prime and sitting in one of the talks. Well now you get a first row ticket to a great one. In this video, Executive Editor Evan Lahti of PC Gamer talks with some heavyweights about the state of PC gaming at PAX Prime 2013. From left to right we have Chris Taylor (GM, Wargaming Seattle), Jon Mavor (Co-Founder, Uber Entertainment), Chris Roberts (Founder, Cloud Imperium Games), and Dean Hall (Creator, DayZ, Bohemia Interactive)—for an in-depth discussion on PC gaming.
Europa Universalis IV Video Review
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1nF5N-zstE"] The long awaited successor of the insanely addictive Crusader Kings 2, EU4 is finally out. And like its predecessor it is a grand strategy game and continues where CK2 left off. You start from the beginning of European exploration and colonization of the New World to the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Based on this review, EU4 is a complex but rewarding game especially if you enjoyed CK2. There is certainly a steep learning curve, but once you get over it, you'll be hooked.
Farming Simulator 2013 Coop #1 - This game is awesome!
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu8EqJnrpgY"] I'll be honest, this video actually sold it for me. After watching this, I picked it up on Steam for a sale price of $9.99. So what exactly is Farming Simulator 2013? Who the hell would want to simulate being a farmer? Well why the hell not? It's a soothing and strangely therapeutic game it seems and the whole experience gets even better when you get to play with friends.
Terra Landing Zone from Star Citizen
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UaFSd-ezQc"] So this week saw Star Citizen's funding hit a peak of USD $18 million, probably the most hyped game for 2014 and it shows no sign of abating. This latest video shows the sheer scale and ambition of the game, where we get to see a work in progress of a landing zone, giving players a sense of what the planet-side experience is like. The scope of this game is just as massive as its funding, let's just hope it also lives up to all its promises.
Have I missed any other interesting this last week? What did you think of my picks? Leave a comment and let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
