We're just getting started

It's been a bit of a journey, but it's been worth it. We've held our ground against capitalist American pig-dogs, murderous Russian terrorists, fascist Nazi invaders, strange cartoon bad guys with military weaponry, strange cartoon bad guys with bows and axes, mutants, aliens, man-eating animals, giants, trolls, supervillains, Japanese warlords, and spaceships that shoot six million bullets per second at you. Among other things. Also, those fucking Creepers.

More importantly, in the past few months, we've faced all those things and maintained a strong and cohesive community. A huge thank you to everyone for playing, participating, and just plain being you in our chatroom and Mumble server. You guys are what make OMGeek work. Pats on the back and all that.

We're just getting started, though; we've got a lot planned for 2012! Here's what you can expect in the coming weeks:

I can't speak for The Old Republic just yet, but it seems like you guys are getting all organized for that game as well.

All that sounds pretty good to me! You know, on the same day last year, I was just some random shmuck who played L4D in single player mode because I couldn't round up enough people for a session. Today, I'm still a random shmuck--but I have defended the Hilltop on Caspian Border with my buddies. I have cowered under a piece of rock in Fallen Fighters with my comrades. I have defended dungeons with my party. I have foiled Inferno's plans (for the last tiiiime!) with mah Renegades. I have even cut across a serene park in Stilwater in a stolen police car driven by my buddy INQUE while playing as Valve Software Managing Director Gabe Newell with Loverboy's "Working for the Weekend" blaring in the background. AND I HAVE THE PIC TO PROVE IT.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg for this community. Thanks guys. Here's to good friends, good games, and more awesome online experiences in 2012!

The OMGeek Holiday Giveaway!

I've got some things on my mind.

I think it's a wonderful thing to be able to enter our chatroom and see it full of people from all over Southeast Asia. I think it's amazing how quickly we've formed a community from different cultures and nationalities throughout the region. I think this Southeast Asian thing just might work, and this makes me extremely happy. It makes all of us extremely happy. In fact...

Every Sunday evening from December 18, 2011 to January 1, 2012, we will randomly pick one member from the OMGeek community and he or she will receive a mystery gift of game from us, no strings attached!

Here are the mechanics:

    1. The winner shall be drawn from a prearranged pool of eligible members.
    2. Eligible members:
      • must have a postcount of at least 15 in the forum
      • must have been active on the month of December 2011
    3. The winner shall be chosen using the List Randomizer at The names shall be entered in alphabetical order, then randomized once. The resulting name order shall then be fed into the randomizer again. Whoever gets placed at the top of the list wins!
    4. Once you win, your name gets taken off the list for the rest of the giveaway period to give other members a fighting chance!
    5. The winner shall be announced in the forum thread on the same day of each draw.
    6. If you win, you have 24 hours to reply and confirm your presence. If this doesn't happen, we will immediately draw another winner using the same randomization method.

Additional things you should know:

    • This mystery gift of game will be a Steam gift.
    • We will rebuild the list every week. If you have 14 posts now, you won't be included in the draw this Sunday, but you'll certainly be in for next Sunday if you have 15 posts by then.
    • No post padding. We place communication at a premium at OMGeek and useless posts that serve no purpose will be deleted. We will be very fair and understanding about determining what a useless post is, but we'll know it when we see it.
    • Posting a video of yourself singing and/or dancing something Christmasy will not improve your chances of winning. 8( /o ;__;

That's it. Good luck and happy holidays, OMGeeks!

A WINRAR IS YOU! December edition

The December raffle has come and gone. Congratulations to InvaderD for winning a Steam copy of Assassin's Creed Revelations!

That's not all we've prepared for all of you, though. Like you might have seen in our site header, we are officially opening the OMGeek Holiday Giveaway! We'll release the particulars very soon in the linked thread, but in a nutshell, it involves us giving games to you--our way of celebrating the holiday spirit with the international OMGeek community.

Stay tuned, guys. Enjoy the holidays!
