Wideo Wednesday: The future of gaming is on your face

This week's gaming videos focus on providing you a glimpse of next gen gaming hardware and software integration. The first three videos cover that nicely. In fact, I'm extremely excited for the Oculus Rift, as discussed in episode 4 of the podcast where James, Jed and I talk extensively about how pumped we are with next gen hardware slated to come out very soon. The last two videos I included some upcoming games that I'm looking forward to this year including Payday 2 and AC4 which show some very promising footage!

Testing a 1080P Prototype OCULUS RIFT VR headset

Ok so now that I've gotten over the initial shock of how amazingly ambitious, realistic and mind blowing the potential for shooters can be with the above video, let me get into another Oculus Rift vid. This one shows a hands on with not just an Oculus Rift development kit, but the new 1080P HD Oculus Rift Prototype over at PAX Australia.

Battlefield 4: Official Battlelog Features Video

Ah the Battlefield series, my favourite go-to multiplayer shooter experience is now pulling its "next gen" card with the integration of tablet and mobile apps into the game, where you actually get to utilise the map, play as the commander and update your class and weapon configs on the fly. What do you think about this? Could it be too gimmicky perhaps? Or could this just increase the amount of AFK players on the battlefield due to unncessary distractions? I know its still early days but I'm still not quite sure what this might bring to the table to be honest.

13 Minutes of Caribbean Open-World Gameplay in Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag

In this video, Game Director Ashraf Ismail takes us deeper into the world of AC4 with his commentary. Bear in mind this is a 13 min video but its well worth sitting through as you get to appreciate the stunning beauty of the Caribbean setting. Dat beach, dem waters. I'm certainly hoping this takes the bad taste of AC3 out of my mouth and I'm pretty sure James hopes so too! (He unleashes his hate for it in episode 1)

We here at OMGeek are very much looking forward to Payday 2's release which promises some big upgrades over the last one. The sequel improves and expands on its predecessor a great deal, with plenty of new game mechanics including an add emphasis on stealth, character classes, weapon customization, and skill trees. Check out the trailer for more details.

Why Are You A Fanboy? Plus, Will We See More Cheap Games in the Next-Gen? SESSLER'S ...SOMETHING

[youtube_sc url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuainYL3FjM"]

Adam Sessler's weekly video series "Sessler's Something" reflects on the seemingly-unavoidable fanboyism that seems to permeate through almost every discussion on the internet. Adam talks about whether game prices are dropping faster than ever, and how that might affect the next-generation's digital distribution.

Cooperatives: The Last Of Us

[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQkv7s5Geys"]

Man I wish I owned a PS3 so I could play this game. Unfortunately I'm caught in between console releases and I'll be sticking to my gaming PC and will probably end up waiting for a PS4 for those exclusives. Next best thing? Probably either watch Let's Play videos or check out this video by Polygon which explores the world of The Last Of Us.

Have I missed any other interesting this last week? What did you think of my picks? Leave a comment and let me know, I’d love to hear from you.
