Closing down a server always feels like saying goodbye to a good friend. You suddenly remember all the good times and even the bad times you had together and wish you can somehow re-live the memories again (cue Fong’s harmonica version of taps).
It’s time we say goodbye to our beloved ARMA 2 server which has served our community for a year. I know most of you have picked up the ARMA 3 alpha and have been loving it (I’ve personally haven’t yet!). People have been asking us if we’re planning to put up a server for it and our response to that question is a resounding: “it depends”. It depends on whether our community will have the demand for it. It depends if members will be willing to be active and help organize games and operations for it. It depends on OMGeek’s financial capability to fund it.
As painful as it is for me to be typing this out, we are also closing our Minecraft server, due to the same reason we’re closing the ARMA 2 server. We’ve noticed that there has been a significant drop of activity.
We, the founders of OMGeek, can not personally handle game organizing anymore due to changes and added responsibilities in our personal lives, so we would want to look to our community members to help us drive the community to be active not only in gaming within the community, but also interaction in our forums and Steam chat. We envisioned OMGeek as an enabler for like-minded gamers, coming together and just having a good old time and we’re hoping that more of our community members can help us reach this vision of ours.
This is not to say that OMGeek is also closing down! How can you even think that! In the coming months, you will be witnessing a drastic change, specifically on the blog. We will be focusing on bringing out content and blog posts that focus on a lot of editorials and thoughts about being an adult and trying to maintain our beloved hobby of pc gaming. We hope that the community would enjoy reading the posts and if you have something to say, please don’t be shy to leave a comment to keep the discussion running. It might even supplement the post! Constructive criticism is equally welcomed, so we know what kinds of articles we should be writing more (if not, Jed will go about writing how game is art. You have been warned! ;__; -ed). Also, liking, RTing and spreading the word to your friends about the posts will mean a great deal to us.
Last day of our servers will be on April 1, 2013 (and no its not April fools joke!)
With that I shall leave you a video which what I think is most appropriate (90’s kids will totally know this song)
