Review Roundup for September releases
It's been a month of some strong releases, some of which I'm highlighting in this week's Wideo Wednesday. Time is a precious resource and I don't speed read or have time to go through reviews in the office, and I'm too busy playing games or watching shows when I'm at home, so when it comes to reviews, I simply watch them. So come join me. This week I'm watching GTAV, ArmA 3, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and the huge let down that is Total War: Rome II.
Grand Theft Auto 5 REVIEW! Adam Sessler Reviews
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pciGmXmE3uk"] $1bn USD in just 3 days, GTA V has already made it in the hall of fame before its launch month is done. In this review Adam Sessler talks about the masterpiece of a game in 2013. Not much else to say other than this is a must buy for any gamer. And PC gamers like myself are sitting and waiting for our version to roll around. Oh well, there's always Saints Row 4 to tide us over until then.
ARMA 3 Video Review
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWwLK-6Gm4I"] The ultimate military sim and sandbox is back in its 3rd iteration and it's not perfect unfortunately. I was surprised to find out that during multiplayer, your fps is actually done server-side which means for the most part, you're capped with 25-30 fps. There's other issues as well which you can learn more about in the review. Long story short, it still feels like a beta, and if you're a long-time ArmA fan, you're probably patient and so the reviewer recommends probably waiting it out if you can while the bugs are fixed down the line. It can only get better with time.
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs Video Review
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQewix1kBho"] So Jed's been eagerly awaiting this game for a while now and won't stop going on about it. I finally manned up and tried to watch the whole review but really couldn't. Oh god the screams. Don't judge me, just watch it and if you're into NOEP/scary games then by all means pick this up.
Total War: Rome II Video Review
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfEUkV-rdVI"] A lot of reviews around the net have been talking about how disappointing this game turned out to be. This hits home for me since I've been a big fan of the original Total War: Rome and have been highly anticipating this sequel. Unfortunately a lot of the issues stem from the fact that it isn't that optimised, although it looks great, it takes a serious toll on even some of the highest end PC's out there, and there are niggling issues like almost having to wait 2 mins or so per turn in the grand strategy campaign part of the game. I hope that we see more patches and optimisations for the game in the coming months before I pick this up on the next big Steam Sale.
Have I missed any other interesting this last week? What did you think of my picks? Leave a comment and let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
