Tactics Sharing and Discussion
Hi all, let's share some information that are able to better our experience during ARMA2 sessions.
Introduction of FireTeam(FT) concept
A fireteam is generally a unit of 4 men led by a fireteam leader(FTL). Usually comprised of FTL, riflemen, automatic riflemen(AR) and assistant automatic riflemen(AAR). In arma case, the role is not restrictive and are usually free, unless specified.
Establishing a FT
A good system to implement would be a buddy system, which is useful for many situations (i.e. bounding movement, reviving, Backblast clearing, etc). A good way to implement it is color team, when all members are in a ARMA team, the TL can assign each buddyteam to a color.
(Optional) Establishing of number, for easier identification and communication, TL-1, Riflemen-2, AR-3, AAR-4.
Communication
FTL should be equipped with a 152/148, to communication with the Squad Leader(SL) or other FTLs and depending on situation, 343 for the FT communication. The rest of FT should be on 343, or even just local when moving closely (i.e. CQB or urban).
Formation
Wedge (Heavy Left/Right)

Good ability to fire to the front, and even to the sides.
Close enough to see and hear orders from the team leader.
Used when contact is expected.
Line
Maximum number of guns brought to bear, placing a heavy volume of fire.
Establish when in contact with enemy to the front and flanks are covered.
File
When speed is priority or no contact is expected.
Movement(Bounding):
Successive Bounding
High level of security while sacrificing time
Alternate Bounding
Fast while sacrificing security
Ok, I am going to stop now, in case of information overloading. Cheers

RE: Tactics Sharing and Discussion
Hi guys, today we did Fallujah Insurgency; focusing on the Airport area, SE of the map. Thanks for letting me try out some outrageous tactics. ;) I am posting my initial plan and what we faced at the actual playthru, hope we can discuss and share some feedback around.
Layout
Players:
Squad Leader (SL): loroke
Wolfpack (WP) Fireteam:
FTL - Chino
Joey, Justin, Ryan and McWally
Blackjack (BJ) Fireteam:
FTL - Inque
Kyosuke, Fooly(TofuGen), Milokaw and Zarull
AO Overview:
![[Image: aqc7G.png]](http://i.imgur.com/aqc7G.png)
Proposed Approach/Actual Playthrough/Comments:
edited: please note the arrows colors was mixed up, black is WP and orange BJ (supposed to be the other way around)
Proposed Insertion:
Having WP laying covering fire for BJ insertion to BJ1, after which BJ1 is to secure surrounding 3 hangars and lay covering fire to the west for WP insertion to WP1; theory behind it can be derived from the alternate bounding concept.
Actual Insertion:
Enemy contact was considerably early then expected, with RPG taking out 1 or two vehicles; this resulted in some initial chaos. Downtime for CAS treatment for BJ Fireteam resulted in WP fireteam being engaged too long and, thus, suppressed. Had to rushed in with MHQ to desired area before area being secured.
Observations, Comments & Reflection (OCR):
SL should properly give Rules of Engagement, in this case, BJ should be on YELLOW till reaching BJ1. WP second vehicle being disabled resulted in unable to have sufficient cover at zero cover area. Overall, the use of alternate bounding in this situation is insufficient security in a heavy contact area causing chaos and situations of being pinned.
Proposed Assault:
Having secured BJ1, BJ would then provide covering fire for WP insertion to WP1. Cover should last till WP has secure WP2. In which:
- BJ fireteam should assault BJ2, utilizing bounding techniques, and upon reaching BJ2, a buddy team would be dispatched to secure the square East of BJ2, while the second Buddy team would be covering their approach. Then, which BJ fireteam would concentrate in laying covering fire for WP assault northward from their WP2.
- WP fireteam would continue their assault westward, through buddy teams bounding till WP3.
Actual Assault:
Covering fire was not established for WP team causing them to be pinned and facing fire from both west and north of WP1. BJ fireteam went on to assault northward, resulting them to be also pinned from the west and north of their positions.
OCRs:
SL did not properly communicate the actual plan, and did not rectify the actual problem during the actual assault, thus, causing the two FT to be independent of each other.
Conclusion
Considering that we have new players joining us for their first time, I feel that achieving half of the mission (I actually planned it till what you can see) is quite an achievement, although with considerably high casualty.
I realized through this session, I would recommend a standard kit for everyone, for example 8 smoke grenades, 4 in hand, 4 in backpack, 5x medical supplies in backpack (except medkit in which 3 at hand).
In addition, for situation when we have considerably sized players. It would be good if we practice the FT/SL. In which, SL should brief FTLs properly and together and have time for FTLS to communicate it to their individual FT, which is largely dependent on the FTL playstyle (Explaining everything at once or objectives-based).
Thanks for reading and hope you guys could share your thoughts. Cheers.
