On Horror Games: Part the fifth

Welcome to the fifth and final part of my article series aimed at convincing more gamers to try horror games and scary games in general. I've saved the most obvious draw for last: the sheer thrill of being in a situation that's against all odds and against all logic. Everybody likes some thrill. I just like them extra scary. Believe me, it's mostly the same thing, except your heart pounds harder and faster and you may jump at times. More is better, right?

RE: On Horror Games: Part the fifth

Just let me quote you from your post:

Quote:Next time you’re home alone, give it a try. Kill the lights. Put on your headphones. Find an appropriately scary game to play — not the ones I’ve already spoiled for you, but there are more out there. It’s time to experience gaming in a whole new way.

I think this is my problem with horror games. I get too immersed to the point I'm too afraid to play. It's a curse and a boon for me. I get too absorbed into some games that I really cherish the game experience, but then again I can never handle scary games.

RE: On Horror Games: Part the fifth

That's a shame, because horror gaming has some of the biggest ups and downs in terms of intensity from scene to scene. I vividly remember that hotel chase scene I described because it felt so good when I finally found a safe place to hide (albeit temporarily).

True story: The first time I played that sequence years ago, everyone at home was away on SERIOUS BUSINESS and I was home alone. My room's light also decided to burn out that evening, and I was forced to play with a small desk lamp as my only light source. It was crazy fun!

Speaking of horror games, I just finished playing Episodes 1 and 2 of Telltale Game's The Walking Dead and it is absolutely fantastic. I can't recommend it enough. It has great characters, superb writing, amazing plot, and forces you to make real choices which affect not only the particular episode you're playing but all subsequent ones as well. Go play it!

I just picked this up early this morning from the Steam sale. Can't wait to start playing!

So it's Mass Effect without the silly shooting and the awkward polygon sex and the irredeemably bad ending? I'm ok with this. 8)

Myface after episode 1: O__O
Myface after episode 2: (((@__@)))

I'm so depressed. Playing this game is just like reading the comic book. This is great horror gaming, though. It's hard to remember the last time I got so tense while playing a computer game.

I wrote a little something about The Walking Dead after I finished the second episode:
