You see, I think its just that cultural upbringing and values we Asians grew up with and they just don't translate that well over the years(some, not all mind you). That deference to "elderly" or authoritative figure, in this case, a well-known, established and experienced person in the game's industry. But mostly of that abominable fear of appearing stupid and "losing one's face" in public. :( Like you said, they just don't want to be That Guy.
