The best videos from Gamescom
Europe's largest games convention was last week, and if you missed out on any news or great videos from the event, then you're in luck. This Wednesday we take a look at some of the best videos I think represent the most interesting games and peripherals featured at the event in Cologne, Germany.
Titanfall - Gamescom 2013 Gameplay Demo
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov8JeZ4uiJo"] Titanfall is probably one of the most fluid FPS experiences I've ever seen. From you the player running and jumping across rooftops with your rocket pack in parkour fashion, to your Titans picking you up seamlessly, everything is presented to you in smooth animations. It doesn't end there though: the overall multiplayer experience itself is designed in such a way that it replicates a campaign or single player mission, in effect blurring the lines. I've never quite seen a game pull this off before, and although this is just a gameplay video, I have high hopes and can't wait to see more of Titanfall in the months ahead.
Oculus Rift HD Prototype - Hands On
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAi72N1Eoik"] The Oculus Rift HD is perhaps the most anticipated hardware peripheral for pc gamers in 2014. This video goes through how the HD version is progressing and Brian Crecente of Polygon gets to test it out on a variety of games, ranging from a specially designed space sim from the makers of Eve Online, to mech combat on Hawken. But the most interesting observation is when he got to test it out watching a trailer in a virtual cinema!
Battlefield 4: Official Levolution Features Video
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3W4FbsAqIY"] EA and Dice have once again added a new word to the Oxford dictionary. This video called "Levolution" shows us how BF4 delivers a dynamic battlefield that reacts to the player's every move. We get to how much more intense multiplayer combat will be with the destructible environments turned up a notch, compared to how tame BF3 was. Although this video gives us a great overview of what to expect, I'm hoping to see more "natural" gameplay videos of actual multiplayer matches where you have players utilising the destructible environments to their advantage. Very promising stuff!
DayZ Standalone - All New Gameplay: Stary Sobor, Weapon Tech and More
[youtube_sc url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Mpxtl4Rdg"] From insanely popular ArmA II mod to full game, DayZ Standalone finally takes a step into the spotlight and is going mainstream with their upcoming release. In this video, we get treated to an in-depth walkthrough of DayZ Standalone. We've seen many games in the past successfully make the transition from mod to successful mainstream title, and with some solid mechanics and gameplay for an open world survival horror shooter, DayZ Standalone will certainly join their ranks. This is another game to look out for later this year or in 2014.
Have I missed any other interesting this last week? What did you think of my picks? Leave a comment and let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
